Black Diamond AutoWerkz Cars and Coffee PT. 2

I love that every time I end up going out to another event, it ends up being better then the last one. And it’s not about how many cars there are, or the “OMG did you see that Porsche that showed up?”. All of that is great and all. And it isn’t about the fact that the class of cars down here in the Rio Grande Valley has become ridiculous (I mean that in a really good way). But there’s one thing I love seeing at events like this more than the exotics that pull up, more than the older classics that pull up, and more than the amount of cars that make it to these events.

When I end up going to an event, I try to think about a “theme” for what I’m going to write, or how I’m going to spin things. It’s more of a relaxed bit of writing I get to do as opposed to the feature articles where I really have to focus on the owner, the cars along with their mods, and all that good stuff. I get to really put thoughts down to “paper” , and for anyone that takes the time to read this – you end up learning a bit about me aside from how I felt about the cars that day. It can be incredibly intimidating to put yourself out there, to become exposed and share thoughts that you HOPE someone connects with. But I could never write fiction, I can’t put myself in someone else’s shoes (in that manner), so I write what I know.

My girl and I pulled up to the event and there was already a solid crowd gathered in front of LIT Coffee. We woke up far too early and hadn’t gotten our morning caffeine yet so we went inside to grab a few drinks. This was my first time checking this place out, and being a former barista – I could appreciate the level of focus carried out by the staff behind the bar. A morning rush is one thing, a morning event is another beast completely. I talked to my buddy Joe about a really gnarly project car he’s been working on the past few years – one that I can’t wait to feature here! Maribel grabbed her donut, we got our drinks – a Twister Taro (hers), and a black Cold Brew (mine). It was time to make the rounds. As soon as I stepped outside, there were tons of Vettes, an Aston Martin, Bentley, and a few McLarens pulling up. Honestly…the amount of McLaren P720s driving around town these days makes me feel like I missed some sort of giveaway. But even though I feel like I see one almost weekly – you can’t get tired of seeing these machines up close. But as much as I enjoy the cars, it’s great to catch up with the people I’ve met doing this along with meeting and chatting it up with new people.

Earlier I mentioned there’s one thing I love about these events more then the cars. Online you feel this huge divide between people, even in car culture. But you go out to an event like this, you get reminded of how things really are. You see this meshing of generations, a coming together of all kinds of enthusiasts from exotic super cars to the performance cars, hell even the right hand drive JDM cars. You see people making this into a fun family outing. You see kids starting to figure out what kind of cars they’re going to like -hint, they’re always the loud ones haha. I love that there are events like this happening here in the Rio Grande Valley. I’m not just referring to the early morning Cars & Coffee events, but everything. The Thursday Night cruises that are still happening and have been since my parents were in High School. The huge car shows like RGVShowoff, the Lowrider hangs at West Side Park, and every damn thing in between from Motorcycles to Trucks (the cuh’s and off-road types). And because of events like these, I still get to do what I love.
