Run It Back

As enthusiasts, we know a project is never really “done” – and if we say it is we all know we’re lying to ourselves. But, on rare occasions, instead of adding a thing here and there, you force your project into being a different version all together. That’s why I had no problem featuring this one for its third time!

This is the third time this S13 has made it’s way to getting featured. Carlos is part of a group of friends that I’ve been close to for over 10 years – Zerogrip. The early version of this 240sx was featured back in July of 2016, but even from it’s early days the Infiniti VH45 was a core part of this build. One thing you’ll notice, if you go back to the past features, is that there was always a shift with the vehicle as a whole. And the next evolution of it was always done to take its time on the track to the next level.

Almost a year ago, Carlos loaded the car on a trailer & headed up to a drift event hosted by our friend Justin Flores at Drift Corpus. Things were going good, but during a final run with some of the guys up there, a slight setback occurred. These things happen though, especially in drifting, and when the dust settled (literally) it was time to come home. Now the car wasn’t a total loss- before the accident, the car was getting into a good spot, the turbo setup was running great, and the car looked incredible. So having something like this happen stings. But one of the things I cannot mention enough and don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about is the drift community down here.

The car was down, and without a clear path figured out, a lot of people would have abandoned ship all together. But that determination to keep going is what sets apart certain kinds of automotive enthusiasts. With some help, this latest version of Carlos’s S13 rolled out of his garage not even two weeks ago. Aside from straightening some things out, it sported an entirely new tube front end. And with the front reinforced, it was time to see what else could be done in terms of performance and efficiency. A rear mounted radiator setup was fabricated after a ton of research. The turbo setup was also reworked with a new T4 from Pulsar and plumbing the setup differently. Visually – there were some big changes. The “Zerogrip” red was something that’s been a part of this car since it’s early days – but with the new KBD bodykit ready to be installed, he opted for a “blackout” look this time around.

There’s having a car go through phases, and there’s completely reinventing it. Since these photos were taken, the car has successfully wrapped up it’s first event at it’s “home” track up in Corpus. Justin has created this community out there that is the grassroots culture personified. If you look through the tons of media coverage after their events, you’ll see it. You see the ability to learn, to grow, and as this next phase of the car would come to be – you see the community.

Check out how far it’s come by visiting the first time it was featured back in 2016!
