RGVPCA Auto-X

I always wanted Gear-Trends to not only post up features, but to also cover different types of Motorsport events. I finally made it a point to start attending some of these events and getting some coverage so people can see all aspects of racing that goes down here in the RGV. Now the majority of people here already know about drag racing, there are a select few that have gone up to several drift events, but in our own back yard we have an entirely different type of racing going on

I actually went to my first HPDE event hosted by this group years back when some friends decided to go check it out, this was before Gear-Trends was even a thing and unfortunately I have no idea where those photos are…sigh. Fast forward a couple years and the RGVPCA is still hosting several events, although lately they’ve been doing the shorter, still fun, auto-x track days due to the location for the HPDE events being closed out. Now there is a great deal of difference between the two types of racing, but you make it work with what you have- and what are you going to do, keep your car parked at home and give up? The variety of cars ranged from a very nimble smart car all the way up to a track purpose built Mustang, with everything in between; and just like the drift events I had gone to, the overall atmosphere isn’t full of egos and grudges, its all about having your car get the fastest time and getting pointers from the instructors. Again, aside from the intense heat that day, even with the cloud coverage – I always seem to underestimate the intensity of the heat we get down here, I had a blast checking out and photographing all these cars that day.
