You Still Owe Me a 10 Second Car…

Supra Teaser

In few instances car designers will sit down and start drawing out lines and curves, pulling out images from within and putting them down on paper. Every once and a while some these renderings will later on become some of the most iconic vehicles in history. For those of you familiar with the Toyota Supra’s body lines you know very well what I’m talking about. The rear end is aggressive, the front end is simple and sleek, and even with its stock exterior- Clyde’s 93′ Supra will still turn heads…or blow your ears out.

Driverside Profile

Living in Austin for the past year I saw a car community that had come together with all different types of vehicles. And because of that I saw cars that I’ve never been able to see in person, in this case a car I’ve often dreamt about owning only to wake up and run outside to my drive way to see one of my Civics sitting there…sigh. Although this Supra is in almost every way stock from the Exterior and Interior, what it lacks in flash- it definitely makes up for in the performance area.

Clyde wont lie about it, “I baby this thing like crazy, it usually just sits in the garage.”, and after a glance at the odometer you’ll know a car from 1993 typically wont have just above 14,000 miles. Now Supra’s have an almost cult following, those people that own one know exactly what they have, and there are thousands of others that one day dream to pick one up – whether its just to build one of the most aggressive looking cars they can, or aim to get some insanely high horsepower numbers these cars are known for putting out. This Supra was built for those high numbers in mind- and having been tuned at Sound Performance reaching 983HP @ 32LBS of boost, I think we can agree it’s hit its mark. Don’t think that’s enough? The only reason the car didn’t reach its 1000+HP mark was due to a miscalculation…not enough injector. Once that gets squared away Clyde will be returning to the dyno to see what this thing can really put down.

Engine Bay

While at the location during the shoot I would catch my self just walking around the car, soaking it all in- forgetting to do my job. I’ve been a fan of the Supra’s since, hell why lie? F&F 1 – shut up you probably drooled over that car in the theaters then walked out and told all your friends it was ricey. Its one thing to see these cars on videos, on the big screen, in magazines – but its another thing entirely to see one in front of you- to hear the power from the 3.0L motor stuffed under this hood with a parts list that has names like HKS, AEM, Fererra, Greddy. After looking it over a bit you’ll see that this car was put together with the sole purpose of being reliable at all times while being able to lose all control of yourself and get lost in a different world all together.

That Ass

Clyde and I talked about how people forget about other early 90s’ cars like the Supra, the Rx7, the NSX – how back then these were the “Supercars” that the everyday guy could afford. They were cars ahead of its time, and at being a 20 years old- it is still one of the most intimidating looking imports in my opinion. For me, the Supra, along with some of the other cars I’ve already mentioned, belong to an entirely different class of Imports ; “Legends”. They are the cars you dream about owning as an import enthusiast. The cars that make your jaw drop as they roll on by as others are oblivious. They’re the cars you choose in video games to build up the way you would if given the chance. They are the ones you cut out of magazines and plaster all over your wall as a teenager. Although I don’t own the Supra being feature today- seeing it and hearing it in person is one of my favorite moments as an automotive photographer.
